Dear Friends Through Christ:
The summer is coming to a close. Now it’s time to return to school. Challenge the mind. Learn new things. Meet new friends.
The summer is coming to a close. Now it’s time to return to Sunday school. Challenge the mind. Learn new things. Meet new friends.
This year promises to be a special year in Christian Education. Allow me to fill you all in on what will be happening at this Lampstand of God, called Redeemer Lutheran.
All the young people will be using resources entitled “Life Together.” Life Together is a lectionary-based class geared to the variety of ages. In the class the young people will examine the readings they will later hear during the service. In this manner the church can reinforce their learning through not only through Sunday school, but also through the songs, the reading, and the message of worship. Sunday school will begin September 12th at 8:45AM.
The very young will also be using the same format along with the everyday lessons of a video series entitled “Davey and Goliath.” Davey and Goliath was a Sunday morning hit some 35-40 years ago, and has been brought back with great results by the ELCA. If you get a chance watch some of these short movies. They’re GRRRRREAT!
The young adults (confirmed) and the older adults are in for a real treat. The class is entitled “Interpreting The New Testament.” It is approximately a 30-week video/discussion course taught by one the top New Testament scholars, Dr. David Rhoads. The course is intended to help you acquire a clearer understanding of the New Testament writings-how they came to us-what they mean-and how to interpret them. If you took a 30-week course such as this one at the seminary, you would probably pay in the neighborhood of $5,000. Yet this course is free. I would love to see the class full!
Our confirmation program will begin Wednesday September 8th, and run every other Wednesday. The program will be held at 5483 North Portersville Road. It will begin at 4:30PM and end at 7:30PM. We will be studying the Lord’s Prayer, The Apostle’s Creed, The Ten Commandments, The Books of the Bible, and lot’s of Bible study. It is very important that these young souls attend all classes and also attend Sunday school. We may have as many as 20 young people attending, and therefore I could use help in not only teaching, but also preparing meals.
Finally on September 13th beginning at 6:30PM and ending at 8:30PM, I will be teaching a weekly in-depth class on the book of Revelation. Many people feel Revelation is a scary book about the gloom/doom and the end of time. However, I feel Revelation is a most powerful book about things that have happened, things that are happening now, and things that will happen in the future. I feel Revelation has the ability, like all Scripture, to change lives for the better. The class is also free and I pray that not only you will attend, but you will bring a friend.
So there you have it. Christian Education is a vital element in the life of the Church. Please take these Education opportunities seriously. Get involved and make sure those around you get involved.
